CORMUS

Purpose : Artificial and perfumed garden
Installation : Set of Sculptures in the Romanesque Chapel
Perfume : HUMUS by Paul Guerlain
Year : 2023 - Chapel of La Maladrerie Saint-Lazare, Beauvais

An unattainable work and inspired staging, Cormus is a vegetal hydra. Rooted beginnings, the half-animal/half-plant chimera has emerged from the barn’s underground and settled into the shaded, cool, and sacred environment of the chapel. Evocative organic forms, the first fragile sprouts have colonized this new space, offering a mystical scene to be viewed from afar, behind a window, allowing one to appreciate the preciousness of this birth.

Beyond the obvious connection through the shared use of plant fibers, the continuity of thought linking these two works aims to honor the interdependence and relationships between the subterranean world—blind and invisible—and the world of light and visibility, which we know and appreciate more. Non-political works, these proposals nevertheless seek to raise awareness about soil preservation and the value of its inhabitants.
